RM, formerly known as Rap Monster, is a South Korean rapper, songwriter, and producer. He is the leader of the globally renowned boy group BTS. Born Kim Nam-joon on September 12, 1994, in Seoul, South Korea, RM grew up in Ilsan-gu, where his family still resides.Early Life and Education
RM displayed a keen interest in music and writing from a young age. He began rapping in his early teens and later joined the underground hip-hop scene in Seoul. He studied at Apgujeong High School and enrolled in the Global Cyber University to major in Broadcasting and Entertainment. RM's stage name "Rap Monster" was derived from his childhood nickname "Monster" and his desire to break stereotypes associated with rappers.
