Benzema Hits Hat-Trick for Al-Wahda, Assisted by Berghuis
Al-Wahda's French striker Karim Benzema scored a hat-trick in his team's 3-1 victory over Al-Ittihad on Thursday, moving him up to second place in the Saudi Pro League scoring charts.
The 35-year-old forward, who joined Al-Wahda from Real Madrid in January, opened the scoring in the 12th minute with a fine header from a Steven Berghuis cross.
He doubled his tally in the 44th minute, again assisted by Berghuis, before completing his hat-trick in the 61st minute with a solo effort.
Benzema's goals helped Al-Wahda move up to fourth place in the league standings, while Al-Ittihad remained in second place, two points behind leaders Al-Hilal.
The Frenchman has now scored six goals in four appearances for Al-Wahda, and he is only one goal behind league top scorer Aleksandar Mitrovic of Al-Hilal.
Benzema's goalscoring form will be a welcome boost for Al-Wahda as they look to challenge for the league title this season.
